Finding Joy in Life’s Little Moments: A Backyard Reflection & Surprise

My Little Moment

As I slipped on my gardening boots and tucked my pant legs inside, and donned a light, long-sleeve jacket, I prepared to face the mosquitos outside. The first thing I did when I stepped outside was look to the right. I was not prepared for what I saw — a snake.

My messy but organized background, where I noticed the snake.

The snake was on the left side of the A/C unit, relatively close to the chicken coop. I screamed and ran inside after unexpectedly seeing the snake it sent me in a minor panic. I was preparing for mosquitos, not snakes.

After some time, I thought to myself, “Wow I created an ecosystem in our mini backyard. I paused, reflected and even smiled because of the joy of something I had created.

The Little Moments & Things

The little moments and things force us to:

Pause & Reflect

The little moment I had seeing the snake reminds me that it’s the little moments and things in life that matter the most in the grand scheme of things. Not to say the bigger things or larger issues don’t matter, but they are always present. The little things are nature’s way of surprising us with a gift that we don’t always seek or expect.

The clouds and sky made me reflect on how blessed I am to be able to travel to new places and appreciate life’s little things and moments.

Over the last few months, I’ve had the opportunity to slow down and appreciate the little moments and things in life that can be taken for granted.

When was the last time you sat still, slowed down, and observed your surroundings? What did you notice? What stood out? Was it the people? The inanimate objects? The smells? Comment below or share it with someone.
